Ayurveda, is a holistic system of natural medicine that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. The term "Ayurveda" is derived from the Sanskrit word "Ayur" (life) and "Veda" (science or knowledge).

Thus, Ayurveda translates as "knowledge of life".

Recognizing the five elements of nature - Ether, Air, Fire, Water, Earth - Ayurveda aims to return a person to their own unique balance of those elements. Each of us is born with a ratio of elements unlike anyone else. Some of us are more "Earth-y", some can be "Fiery or "Air"-y. Because of the unique ratio of these elements from person to person the approach to balance must be customized, idividualized. Ayurveda uses diet, lifestyle and herbal remedies along with compassionate support of the mind and Spirit of each person to guide them to balance and healing.

Ayurveda is not a standard approach to wellness, but rather, a highly individualized road map to balance. Understanding your own constitution allows you to recognize imbalances before they become full blown disease, making Ayurveda a preventative medicine as well as offering therapeutic remedies for existing disease. This approach has an often dramatic effect on chronic imbalances such as:

~ IBS ~ Weight Gain ~ Depression + Anxiety ~ Hormonal Imbalances ~ Insomnia

Dharma: conformity to one's true nature

Ayurveda found me fifteen years ago owning and managing a nationally recognized salon/spa with twenty five people on staff. I was also chronically constipated with anxiety and heart palpitations, excruciating monthly cycles and insomnia. As a person who studied and taught “wellness” I thought all the salads and smoothies that I lived on, and the workouts that I endured would sustain and strengthen me. Ayurveda showed me why that approach was not working out so well.

When an aesthetician working in my spa brought in a skincare line that was inspired by the science of Ayurveda, I was forever changed.

Ayurveda, the ancient health science from India, teaches us that we each embody a unique combination of the five elements of nature, Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Given that no two people have the same ratio of these elements, there can not be one diet, one beauty treatment, one herb, that works for all. We must first understand our dharma, our true nature, before we can adopt a solution to our imbalances. There is no across the board remedy. Whether you have a current diagnosis or simply seek a preventative lifestyle, Ayurveda holds the keys to your well being.

Understanding myself in this way gave me permission to be me. By making small changes in my lifestyle more suited my unique constitution, I began to feel like myself again. I was well rested and deeply nourished. My digestion felt so much better and I was inspired in a way that I hadn't felt in a long time. My skin glowed and my hair shone and I was deeply content.

I've since spent many years studying this life changing knowledge and sharing it with my clients. I see so many people who are experiencing more and more health issues from depression, IBS, insomnia and hair loss to infertility, thyroid disease and hormonal mayhem. It gives me great joy to teach people how to take control of their own well being.

Now moving in tune with my true nature I support others on their journey toward true and lasting wellness. For true beauty is not the shade of your hair or the cut of your clothes, but it is the light that shines so brilliantly when we live in tune with Mother Nature.

Pitta

Fire + Water

Those with a predomonance of these elements are prone to acid reflux, anger, heat and skin sensitivity

Kapha

Water + Earth

Those with a predominance of these elements are prone to weight gain, depression, lethargy and dullness
